A monument to Roerich on Vasilevsky Island.

The opening ceremony of the monument of artist, thinker and public figure Nicholas Roeric was  hosted In St. Petersburg.

The monument is made of Karelian granite paved with granite slabs on the ground, lined with curbs, small pedestals in the corners, it weighs 30 tons, and height - 3,5 meters.  Roerich depicted wrapped in a cloak and looking at the south-east - the direction of his famous expedition. Place for a memorial garden has been selected at "Vasileostrovets" at the intersection of Grand Avenue with 25 th line of Vasilevsky Island, which is not by chance - with Vasilievsky Island is connected nearly all of Petersburgs life of Nicholas Roerich. He was born here in 1874 and later studied at the gymnasium K.I. May. He graduated and entered the Academy of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Law University of St. Petersburg, visiting also lectures on history and philology faculty of SPSU. He also participated actively in the activities of the Imperial Russian Archaeological Society.

Sculptor V. Zaiko and architect J.F. Kozhin became authors of the monument with sponsors and commissioned by the International Charity Fund "Roerich Heritage" at the expense of sponsors to celebrate the 136 th birth day of Roerich.
