US travel increase
« on: September 23, 2009, 08:32:17 PM »
The number of Russian tourists vacationing outside Russia fell by 1.1 million, or 22.6 per cent in the first half of the year compared with last year. Some 3.8 million people holidayed overseas in the first half of 2009. The largest drop was among people travelling to China - "The main reason was the tightening in customs rules regulating the importation of goods into Russia," said Irina Tyurina, press secretary for the Russian Tourism Industry Union. Tourist numbers to Ukraine dropped by 48 per cent, while the number of travellers to Latvia fell by 47.5 per cent.

Meanwhile, the number of people travelling to the United States grew by 36 per cent. "The low rate of the US dollar compared to the euro and special offers on hotels and airfares made the cost of tours to the country approach those of Europe," said Tyurina. "Moreover, there is practically no problem with receiving an American visa - the process has been regulated and there are hardly any refusals." | Forum
