Cheburashka Olympic mascot for Russia Olympians
« on: January 22, 2009, 06:56:10 PM »
Cheburashka is the Russian Olympic mascot

In 2014 the winter Olympics will be in Sochi,  Russia. The children's cartoon character Cheburashka was the symbol for Russia's Olympic team in Turin, Italy in 2004. And in 2010 in the Vancouver Winter Olympics Cheburashka turned blue!
Normally he is brown, but for the winter Olympics he changed.
The Sochi 2014 games will be in the southern resort area near Sochi on the Black Sea.

Cheburashka is an imaginary animal that arrived to Russia in a box of oranges. No one knows where he came from, but he is only found in Russia. He was invented by Uspensky who wrote a book and popularized by 4 animated cartoons. In the coming years there will be new cartoons released by Japanese animation studios. Watch for them!

Directions: Near Sochi, near the Black Sea, in the mountains

Blue Cheburashka is Olympic mascot for Russian athletes

The blue cheburashka is everywhere. First all the Russian athletes carried them into the Olympic stadium during the opening ceremonies in Vancouver. Then they seem to have escaped and appeared all over the city!
Reminds me of the onslaught of the Smurfs ... back in the day!

The proper thing was to keep them from disrupting the games. All that blue hair on the ice is very treacherous!

Cheburashka is your mascot!?

Awesome! I loved watching Cheburashka and crocodile Gena when I was a kid. But I must say that saying goodbye to Mishka in the Moscow Olympics still makes me cry. There was something magical in that bear. :)

The olympics closing ceremony from Moscow still bring tears to my eyes. Seeing Mishka crying and the ascent song "dosvedanya" always cracks me. Dont know why.

Here are the lyrics in english:

The stadium stands are getting quiet…
Time of miracles is melting away.
Farewell to you, our tender Misha,
Go back home to your wood of fairy tales.
Don’t be sad, give a smile before the parting,
And recall these good days, please recall…
Wish us all the fulfillment of wishes,
Wish a new meeting soon to us all.

So let’s wish lots of luck to each other,
Let’s wish kindness and love with no end,
Bright and clear echo of the Olympics
Will forever be cherished and sang.
Farewell to you, Moscow, farewell,
Farewell, the Olympic fairy tale,
Wish us all the fulfillment of wishes,
Wish a new meeting soon to us all.

chorus:
Friends are coming apart,
Tenderness stays in the heart…
We shall cherish the song.
Farewell, we shall meet again.

Listen to Cheburashka sing his song with Gena the Crocodile.
Could it bring a misty eye to the Sochi Olympics?

Okay, maybe the Russian National Anthem would be better on the podium!

Three years ago, "The News" held its own competition for the best version of the Sochi Olympics mascot.  The most successful figures in the autumn of 2007 we transferred to the Organizing Committee of Olympic Games 2014.

Readers of "Izvestiya" should remember that the competition to develop a possible Olympic mascot for the Sochi 2014, our newspaper has announced almost immediately after the victory of Russia's successful bid to the IOC session in Guatemala in July 2007. Frankly, we did not expect such a proposal will receive a quick response not only to the Russian regions, but also in the near abroad.  E-mail to the department of sports came from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and many artists (both professional and amateur) pleased us fresh and original solutions.

Who is not only offered if the readers of Izvestia - and dolphin-country skiing, and mammoth, and bear in shirt and Santa Claus and a polar bear, and a fantastic animal with a squirrel tail Amicus. Also, snow fellows, octopus, starfish and even astronaut ...  All submitted designs for the competition took a specially created expert committee, comprising members of the editorial board of Izvestiya, professional designers and outstanding sportsmen.

As a result, for publication in the newspaper were selected slightly more than 50 drawings, as well as an arbitrator for final determination of winners, we were asked to address the People's Artist of Russia Viktor Chizhikova - the father of Misha, a symbol of the 1980 Games in Moscow. Prizes Izvestia contest he called Hope Debogori, Vladimir Karasev, Olga Sauvignon, Valery Yakovlev and Victoria Novozhilov. In November 2007 they received honorary degrees and sets of commemorative gifts, and pictures of all, without exception, contestants were handed over to the Organizing Committee of the Sochi-2014 ".
