The Admiralty- golden spire over St. Petersburg
« on: January 04, 2009, 08:31:17 PM »
The spire of the Admiralty building can be spotted from just about any vantage point in the city. It was one of the first structures in St. Petersburg build in 1704 by Peter the Great. The golden ship on the top of the spire has been used so much by photographers and publishers it is now copyrighted by the city and cannot be reproduced without permission. The Palace Square is just east, or to the right of the Admiralty. It is a great area for walking with fountains and roadside parks.

Follow the main roads to the Neva. Nevsky Prospect, Gorokhovaya and Voznesensky Prospect all lead there. You can see the gold Admiralty Spire at the north end of these 3 streets and get your bearings in the city.

This was one of my favorite places before the 1918 revolution! I could go and have fun sliding from a big slide.

It is the one of my favourite walks in Petersburg. After the Hermitage exhibition on Sunday i like to walk thru that Admiralty park to the St. Isaac Cathedral and end up on the Sennaya square.
Nice in a cold or warm weather.

Hi Jonbone,
Yes, the Admiralty park is very beautiful, even more now.
It's really been taken care of.

And if you have some questions you are always welcome to write it here.
