Russia learning to smile at the world
« on: June 02, 2010, 08:29:47 PM »
A big part of Russia's cold war image was a hard tough facade.  Only a serious and unwavering, almost scow-like,  look towards other countries. Even in the Vladimir Putin era of economic stability there was a hard, zero-tolerance stance towards the world. Interestingly, He had the same, "either you are with us or against us" rhetoric as George Bush.

Putin’s policy was largely defined by the motto of “whoever offends us won’t last three days,” a quote he made in 2000,

Ten years later President Medvedev has formulated a more positive version: “Smile at those who smile at us.”

It sure puts a more civilized face on diplomacy and bodes well for teh future if the course is continued.
