Post by: Sennaya on January 03, 2009, 07:09:20 PM
Celebrate the day, June 12, 1990 when the Russian Parliament declared it's independence and sovereignty and the Russian Federation was founded and the USSR was dissolved.

The holiday has changed its name twice.
Started by Boris Yeltsin In 1991, it was named Independence Day.
then in 1994 was renamed to Day of the adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Russian Federation
and finally on 1 February 2002 was renamed to Russia Day!
Starting in 2003 it was celebrated in a broad way with the support of President Vladimir Putin.

The Palace Square and Nevsky Prospect are sure bets for activities in St. Petersburg on Russia Day.
