New themed train on the Moscow Metro features characters from classic Soyuzmultfilm cartoons, creators of Cheburashka.
The design of the train cars feature images of characters from classic Soviet cartoons, including Once Upon a Dog, Junior and Karlson, Hedgehog in the Fog, The Bremen Town Musicians and Cheburashka.

Lucky riders on the Serpukhovko-Timiryazaevskaya (gray) line of the Moscow metro will see Cheburashka and Gena. The Moscow Metro launched a special train commemorating the 80th anniversary of Soyuzmultfilm, the largest Soviet and Russian animation studio on 29 August 2016.

Cheburashka will travel to space to commemorate the jubilee of the main Russian animation studio and the anniversary of the first flight into space.

Cheburashka, a small furry creature with big ears, is currently on his way to Baikonur Cosmodrome, from where he will start a real space adventure on July 7. The beloved children's character has successfully passed all the preflight tests. He will stay a few weeks at the ISS along with a team of astronauts, the Ministry for Culture of Russia reported.

The spaceflight of the small plush toy is dedicated to the two dates the 80th anniversary of Soyuzmultfilm animation studio and the 55th anniversary of the first flight into space.

Cheburashka will have the opportunity to experience the life at the space station, float weightless, observe Earth through a telescope, and conduct experiments. He will also make a spacewalk outside the ISS and watch the best Soyuzmultfilm movies with his team.

We are always watching for historical items, especially from Sennaya Ploschad.

Here is a view of Sennaya Square Hay Market from about 1860 showing far fewer buildings than in 1900. 

Currently the Orthodox Cathedral location is replaced by the Sennaya Ploschad Metro entrance and there is only a small orthodox temple off to the left erected in the early 2000s.

Shows are happening all the time for theatre and ballet.
A great way to practice Russian is to listen to the words and see the translations while the Soviet animation stars Cheburashka and Gena share their adventures.

A favorite in Russia since Soviet times, Cheburashak has also become quite popular in Japan in the past 10 years.

The Alexandrinsky Theater is beautiful isn't it. Those pics are wonderful. Very high ceilings, I would love to visit one day. Does it get used as a theater very much?

Soviet cartoon exhibition opens 2 Dec, 2015 in Moscow
An exhibition showcasing Soviet animation opens at the VDNKh Centre today in Moscow.

Organized by Moscow animation studio Soyuzmultfilm, the exhibition features around 700 graphic and 3D exhibits, as well as a screening room and opportunities to hear from the filmmakers and artists behind the animations.

Visitors to the exhibition will see original scenery, sketches, storyboards, models and dolls from well-known cartoons such as Vinni-Pukh (Winnie-the-Pooh) and Cheburashka.
